A sales tip. How to gain trust.

If you are going to throw and mix lies into your presentation, just save your breath. I can smell a lying cheating saleman a mile away. I am just looking to catch you in your next line. Your b.s. does not work, and it is actually highly unethical, however, I truly believe that a lot of people just do not understand. It is time to understand and start fresh today. Why not try to be honest, helpful and genuine? That type of person has my vote. If you want to continue all of your scripted lines of B.S., I have a job for you at "Fast Eddie's Used Cars" in Hialeah. I can eat guys like you up and spit you to the curb before I even ate my double cheeseburger pal. Do yourself a favor. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. The good news is that you can quit lying, and just be honest. The better news is that your sales will actually increase, and your repeat and referral business will start to build and continue to stregthen. Trust is like money... it is hard to get,...

How about down playing your skills a little? Resume Advice.

I have an idea. In my lifetime I have hired in excess of 1,500 employees. Resume viewing is just a part of my life. One thing that really started to make me sick was people putting too much bull on their resume, everybody was the greatest man on earth in their own minds. Let's do this. Tear the old resume up and start from scratch. It will be O.k. to cite your college info, or technical schooling. It will be best to only cite the last and most important school. My friend used to tell me that i had more degrees than a thermometer, and if you have too much, you are simply over-qualified for the position. Do not forget that the person who is looking at your resume, is not looking to get replaced by you hot-shot. Tone everything down and standardize the resume. Make it seem as if you are a fresh college graduate. That looks a lot better than 5 years sales manager here, car salesman there etc...It is better to really emphasize your main trait like sales, or technical skill. If you ar...

Are you on your medication?

It is absolutely amazing how many people take medication for various things. A lot of people really love oxycodone and xanax. It seems as if we all need some type of escape from the real world. All the doctor's down here are scared to death to give out the scripts, and when they do, they make sure that every thing is "low dose". The medical community is being tightly regulated and scrutinized for what the South Florid Community refers to as Pill Mills. South Florida is one of the hot spots for setting up pain clinics, with on-site dispensing advertisements. The ads tout pain relief for specific conditions like neck pain, back pain and arthritis. They typically charge around $50- $75 for the office visit, and then make some on the actual scripts. Also, stop selling your medications please in the open. I feel like I'm at a used car lot overhearing the spiels. I hope you get better and please stop stumbling around in public on those Somas. If you are going to...

Rude People on the Bus.

I saw some very rude people today in action. A Hatian gentlemen got on the bus, and apparently did not have money on his pass. The bus driver was more or less giving him a really hard time, and others on the bus were chiming in. Before you act rude to another person, why don't you take a step back ... and walk in that person's shoes for a moment. You do not know if he just got off the phone to find out his mom and dad passed away. Get a grip. Get a life. If everybody would just pause one moment before showing your rude side, close your eyes and think for a second, we would have a lot better world. The strange thing is how people tend to escalate the hate process and their adrenaline begins working. Why don't you go out and get some meds? I surely hope that everybody can just be nice, a novel concept.

If you have a business... I hope you "get it".

I just got back from eating at the Food Court in Adventura Mall. I started with a cheesecake sandwhich which was mediocre at Charleys. After downing that, and since I was still hungry, I mosied over to the store next to it which was new in the mall, a place called "Chicken Now". Chicken Now really gets it, let me tell you. First, they have a fantasic attitude and vibe which you can sense immediately. They seem very nice and genuine, this is what initially attracted me to the counter. Then, they offered me the sample..... mmmhh, dipped in their orange specialty sauce. I just knew that I wanted more right away. The chicken tastes like the Chick-Filet Brand, however, this one is even more flavorful, juicy and mouthwatering tenderness. I am now head over heals for chicken again. The platter that I got is $5.99 with 3 tender breasts, and two sides, I chose the cold slaw with apples, and a side of red potato salad. I added a diet coke which brought me to about $7.20 total. This ...

Aventura Mall. A lesson in people skills.

I got the chance to experiment today with dealing with people. The Aventura area of Miami is located to the northeast corridor of Dade County. This area is known for a lot of Jewish families, wealth, and fine autos. It seems like a really great area complete with all of your grocery store conveniences, plenty of book stores and eateries, along with the mall as the central destination. The mall is really nice, and the first thing that everybody does as they enter is go to get their free Tea at Teavana. The ladies are there to mop up the mess, complete with mustache.... like the school lunch ladies. I always have to walk around the yellow caution signs to keep you from slipping on the freshly spilled tea blends. Passing through the food court can present somewhat of a problem because you have to maneuver around the older slow people. Have you ever notice that some people just do not want to get out of your way. Anyhow, I was working at the Kiosk tonight selling Judaica. We have a unique...

Good information for people applying for work.

Is “To whom it may concern” the kiss of death? By rachel zupek on Jan 19, 2010 in Career Advice, Featured, Job Search, Resume Most job seekers know that, whenever possible, it’s best to address your cover letter to the person who has the power to hire you — or at least the person who can bring you in for an interview. But, all too often, if a name isn’t listed on a job posting, the job seeker resorts to an old-fashioned salutation like, “To Whom It May Concern.” What they don’t know, is that this approach can sometimes be considered the kiss of death. Impersonal salutations like “Dir Sir/Madam” or “To Whom It May Concern,” show an employer two things. The first is that you lack the initiative to locate the appropriate contact; the second is that you show a disregard for any research needed to be done on your part. In short, employers will think you’re lazy and your cover letter will end up in the trash. One of the most common questions we get is how to find the name of a hirin...

Some days you just want to hold your head in your hands.

Unfortunately in life, not everything and sometimes anything, goes our way. This is another day where I am on a treadmill, however, I am really not moving... and certainly not forward. Do you ever feel the same way? One reason is because of oversight from big Government. Our constitution protects us from unfair practices of "Big Government", just good luck actually recieving it. If a large operation or organization wishes to come against you for any reason, they are usually going to win. Please understand that it rarely matters who is right and who is wrong. I realize you are under pain with your strong assertion, and yes all the law and case-law is on your side. Our court system is as full of the "good old buddy system" as it was in our forefather's days. The truth does not matter to the court, and the law does not typically matter depending on the Judge. A lot of great men have attempted to fight for justice in the past and lost, like Martin Luther...

Are you currently investing in the Stock Market?

Please be ultra-careful right now in the market. A lot of gains have been made as of late with the financial stocks. This does not mean that you have to go out and chase your dreams at the top. If there is one thing that we all have learned since 2007, is "What goes up, must come down". I do recommend that people carefully select some type of a managed investment like a mutual fund, which takes into consideration growth, but is high on capital preservation. Don't you wish you just has all of the money that you lost... back in your hands?

Why not go back to school FREE?

If you are experiencing the brunt of the downturn in the economy, why not just go back to shcool? For one thing, you may be able to go completely FREE. Do yourself a huge favor and start filling out your FAFSA application online to see if you qualify for free schooling. This is a great time to "up" your credentials, and increase your long term income chances. In fact, you might even learn something, and have a little fun doing it. Just Go for it. You can thank me later.

Tell us a little bit about what you are experiencing in this economy?

I have personally seen a lot of companies go out of business completely as of late. It has really been a tough couple of years. It did not really matter what strategies were applied, most sales still continued to decline. Many organizations are attempting to assign the blame. Good luck. The most popular methodology is for mid-level management to lay it out on the direct line sales managers and team leaders. Realistically, if you own the company, you need to take a good hard look in the mirror. Most companies saw declines because of the economy, but also unwillingness to change played into the equation.
