In Zillow's survey of the country's 1,000 largest cities for Businessweek.com, Weston, Fla., an affluent city near Fort Lauderdale, ranked as the best-performing market, with an increase in median home value of 15.1% since February 2009. Other surprising winners: Utica, N.Y., Morristown, Tenn., and Penn Hills, Pa. Still, many markets fared far worse than average. In Homestead, Fla., a low-income Miami suburb about 50 miles from top performer Weston, the median home value fell 48.8% — the greatest drop in the country. My daughter and I had been just disembarked from a cruise and decided to explore South Beach on our last day in Florida, hoping we could secure a room for the night.. Turned out it was Good Friday--uh oh! After hours of traipsing around with our luggage in the heat going from one booked hotel to another we found Laura's listing on the internet in what I now suspect was an act of Divine Intervention. It was a quiet oasis in the heart of the hip, pulsating South Beach. Laura responded to my on line query immediately and met us at the Studio within the half hour so that we could leave our bags and get on the beach. She was lovely, helpful, and gave us tips about inexpensive van services to the airport the next morning. I can not recommend her highly enough. Stephanie Laura was absolutely great, incredibly flexible, attentive, available and overall very welcoming. Her apartment is an oasis on South Beach. I have personally seen a lot of companies go out of business completely as of late. It has really been a tough couple of years. It did not really matter what strategies were applied, most sales still continued to decline. Many organizations are attempting to assign the blame. Good luck. The most popular methodology is for mid-level management to lay it out on the direct line sales managers and team leaders. Realistically, if you own the company, you need to take a good hard look in the mirror. Most companies saw declines because of the economy, but also unwillingness to change played into the equation.
